Chic Girl Profile: Priscilla, Manager of Urban Chic Annapolis

One of the very best things about working at Urban Chic is all the style tips and tricks that I get from our amazing managers.  On one hand, they always look so put together that it makes me feel like a total frump, but on the other, they are so generous about sharing their wisdom with others that you really can’t hate them for looking so great day in and day out.  Lucky for all of us, Annapolis store manager Priscilla was nice enough to offer some of her best advice and favorite trends with my Chic readers so that we can at least TRY to look half as good as she does.  Read on for a peek into Priscilla’s stylish world…

Priscilla is wearing: Wildwood, Plaid Shirt, $95; COH, Avedon Skinny Jeans in Dust, $185; Hunter Boots, $125.

Name: Priscilla McGarity

Position: Manager of Annapolis

Brief description of your daily responsibilities:
As manager of Urban Chic Annapolis, I work to ensure that our store operations run smoothly. Most importantly, I make sure our clients receive outstanding customer service and a fabulous shopping experience at Urban Chic. I make sure our salesgirls are happy and fulfilled in their workplace and are always striving to do their best. I also love remerchandising the store and showing customers how they can work trends into their wardrobes by mixing pieces at Urban Chic with ones they may have at home!

Top three style icons:
There are so many places and people I find inspiring in terms of fashion. First, I love Ralph Lauren; he is a true American fashion icon. He creates timeless pieces in fine fabrics such as cashmere, wool, and silk in impeccably tailored pieces that can be mixed and matched for an effortlessly chic ensemble. Number two is Georgina Chapman, who is the head designer and creative force behind fashion label Marchesa. Chapman uses Asian and vintage influences to create elegant evening wear that has been popping up on red carpets everywhere. Finally, I have to name Rachel Zoe, who is a creative genius. She has styled numerous celebrities from Nicole Richie to Jennifer Garner. Zoe takes fashion risks by mixing vintage pieces with bold statement jewelry to create a fresh and always memorable look.

Priscilla is wearing: Shoshanna, One Shoulder Dress, $360; Urban Expression, Lagia Clutch, $40.

Favorite celebrity style:
I love Gwyneth Paltrow! Since the 90’s I have been following Gwyneth through all of her fashion transformations. She has always been a timeless beauty while taking risks and reinventing herself. She wears classic styles but embraces her body! Hello legs! I love how she mixes tailored blazers with fabulous mini dresses and always keeps it classy. Gwyneth also always has the most amazing shoes! Cameron Diaz is also a favorite. Her laid-back California personality always shines through. You can tell she really has fun with her fashion choices and doesn’t take things too seriously. And, from her beachy waves to her Manolos, Sarah Jessica Parker is a true inspiration! I would love to raid her closet!

Best fashion advice you’ve ever received, read, or heard:
Sometimes you have to suffer to be beautiful! Whether it’s the sky-high Louboutins or skinny jeans, sometimes you have to bear the pain in the name of fashion.

Favorite trend of all time:
Statement jewelry! What can I say; jewelry really is a girl’s best friend. Splurge on a bold necklace that you can throw on with a basic black t-shirt or pair with a fabulous cocktail dress. For me jewelry becomes sentimental, reminding me of a special person or place!

Priscilla is wearing: Parker, Corset Dress in Pink Floral, $253; Shawlsmith, Dune Scarf in Berry, $38; AnZell, Flat Chain Sandal, $23.

Your very own fashion faux pas:
Some say too much leopard print is over the top; I say you can never have enough! But I admit in middle school I had leopard print pants and it was in fact too much!

Worst fashion faux pas you’ve witnessed:
I’m sorry but I can’t stand printed pants! Save the flamingo-print pants for when you are 80 and live in Palm Beach; thank you!

Two favorite pieces in Urban Chic right now:
1. Citizens of Humanity, Avedon Skinny, $185- Perfect in the fall with boots and a cashmere sweater. Wear them with Hunters in rainy April for a classic look or pair them with sandals and a flowy blouse in the summer…these jeans are seasonless!

2. Shoshanna One Shoulder Dress in navy/white ikat. The print is amazing. Perfect for a Spring wedding or paired with great sandals on vacation. Shoshanna dresses make every woman feel amazing!

Describe the perfect outfit for everyday life:
Every working woman needs to have a DVF wrap dress in her closet. It works for a meeting on the hill to a happy hour with coworkers. Add a great necklace and shoes and you have an instantly chic outfit! You can buy one now and wear it in 15 years and it will still be as stylish as the first time you wore it!

If Priscilla’s helpful tips have you wanting more, stop by Urban Chic Annapolis to pay her a visit—she’ll have you out of your style rut and looking hot in no time!

Until next time, Chic Girls!

XOXO,
K
