Name:  Tracy Long

Position:  Blogger

Daily duties:  My job is truly a fashion lover’s fantasy!  Each day, I peruse through the most CHIC boutique in Baltimore, Bethesda and D.C. to keep you ladies updated on the latest trends, must have items and exciting Urban Chic events.  With each posting, I aim to provide readers with fun and innovative styling tips and I also strive to teach you how to enrich your own wardrobe.

Top 3 style icons:  It’s incredibly difficult for me to narrow it down to just three, but my top style icons would be Grace Kelly, Diane von Furstenberg and Rachel Zoe.  Even today, Grace Kelly would be outright dazzling, teaching us all a lesson in elegance.  She simply exuded class with her impeccable taste and effortlessly understated style.  I believe Grace was one of the first to popularize headscarves and oversized handbags, which both remain at the forefront of fashion today.  Diane von Furstenberg is another remarkable style icon.  Diane’s style is sexy yet feminine, and I love picturing her in her brightly colored, outrageous prints.  Love her or hate her, Rachel Zoe knows what’s hot and what works.  She is the master of layering the right pieces, accessorizing and crafting the perfect red carpet look.  As she would say, “That’s bananas.”

Favorite celebrity style:  Celebrities’ style is amazingly entertaining to stalk, and I can’t get enough of Kate Hudson, Rachel Bilson and Sienna Miller.  These ladies always look flawless on the red carpet, and I truly admire their individual styles.  Kate Hudson is a bona fide love child with an effortlessly boho CHIC style.  Sporting beach waves, she always appears to have just slipped into a beautifully printed Maxi dress and layers of accessories without even trying to look CHIC.  Rachel Bilson has a great eye for what works and what’s happening next in fashion.  I admit it…I would steal everything in her closet!  Mixing and matching, she is always spotted in the cutest shoes, most stylish belts and trendiest blazers.  My last fashion crush is on Sienna Miller who has the uncanny ability to pull off a variety of looks, including the edgy style of Eddy Sedgwick and a bohemian goddess.  Not afraid to take risks, Sienna knows how to style herself to perfection.

Best fashion advice you’ve ever received, read or heard:  Figure out your body type and wear what flatters it.  If you do this and are comfortable in your clothes, you’ll undoubtedly look your best!  …I’m also a believer in the philosophy that accessories can make or break an outfit, so choose your jewelry, shoes and handbag / clutch wisely!

Favorite trend of all time:  It’s simple, but I love them – Skinny Jeans!  Skinny jeans are easy to tuck into your favorite leather boots and look fabulous with ballet flats and heels.

Your very own fashion faux pas:  Embarrassing but true, I was a victim of the long, bedazzled prom dress.  Flashy and bright, these things should only be allowed on the stages of Vegas!

Worst fashion faux pas you’ve witnessed:  I hate to call some of you ladies out on this one, but it’s never attractive to show off white cotton pants, shorts, etc. when wearing brightly colored panties.  I’ve also never been a fan of the Birkenstocks with socks look…enough said.

2 favorite pieces in Urban Chic right now:  I’m obsessed with several pieces in the store right now (My “want” list is growing longer by the hour), but two that really stand out to me are the House of Harlow 1960 Tiger Eye Ring and the Elizabeth and James James IV Jacket.  The Tiger Eye Ring is undeniably gorgeous with a little bit of edge to it and can be worn out with a cocktail dress or during the day with denim cutoffs and sandals.  Like the ring, the James IV Jacket is a versatile piece that can be styled with many things from your closet.  Pair the jacket with a party dress to create a day look or wear it with a flirty tank, jeans and very high heels for dinner with the girls.

Describe the perfect outfit for a first date:  Let’s face it..on a first date, everyone wants to look hot and blow the guy away, but remember girls, it’s best to leave a little to the imagination.  To me, the Daftbird Long Dress in Leaf  is an ideal outfit for a first date because it’s slimming and very fitted, showing off your figure without revealing too much skin.  The bright, vivid green of the dress will look amazing on both blondes and brunettes and gives off a fun vibe for Summer.  Intensely large, gold earrings and chunky, gold bangles will complete this seductive number.
